SAU #39 Welcomes Back Faculty

Hundreds of faculty attended Tuesday's Back to School Breakfast, including some new faces.

Vacant hallways and classrooms will be filled tomorrow, and faculty and staff at Amherst’s schools are preparing for the waves of students to pass through their doors.

The SAU #39 school district held their Back To School Breakfast Program on Tuesday morning to get school employees pumped for the new school year.

Superintendent Perer Warburton preceded the introductions with a solemn goodbye to a 20-year veteran Clark-Wilkins teacher Martha Wagner, who passed away last week. He said the school will miss her unique sense of humor and dedication to student learning.

Many new faces will be joining the school district this year, with almost forty positions filled across the different schools. Souhegan has the most with 22 new hires, including new dean of students Rob Scully and interim dean of faculty Kathy White.

School board chairs introduced themselves and set the stage for what they are looking to do this year. SAU #39 board chair John Quinlan told faculty of their goals to improve communication, feedback and curriculum structure in the school district.

“Together we will produce a better school system,” he said.

Warburton told new faculty that they have landed “in a great place” in SAU #39 and that he is proud to call this district home.

“We are all cheerleaders of Sau #39, in the schools, the classrooms and the things that we do,” said Warburton.

He said that his goal this year is to let the community know about the great things happening in the schools by visiting twenty homes to share these stories. This effort will campaign for the schools and let more community members see what he sees every day.
