Some Thoughts on a Rainy Day

As much as a sunny day gives me the “get-out-and-go” feeling, there is nothing like the relaxing energy that comes out of a rainy day like the one I am experiencing right now.

I have always loved rainy weather and the calm vibes that they generously give the soul. The skies are cloudy, the temperature is cool and the air is filled with the sound of falling raindrops.

This setting is the perfect backdrop for some good ol’ calm reflection if I ever heard one.

Sure the body is tired due to the lack of sun, but that is just your mind telling you it is time to slow down and think for a while. Don’t resist the temptation to let yourself get a little more relaxed on a rainy day.

Right now I am looking out of the window and watching the rain slowly fall to the ground. One by one they drop through the air until each one lands and joins back with the earth once more. The trees around me are the only things moving as I type. Nature is quiet as my usual music playlist continues and accompanies this peaceful moment (of course there is the sound of the laundry machine, but that can easily be ignored.)

I think about how great it is to be alive on a day like this. How lucky I am to be able to learn new things each day and meet so many amazing people in the process. There are so many doors left to open, and the future is just waiting to throw surprises my way.

We get to have moments like this. A brief period of peace and quiet that not everybody gets to have. How fortunate to live in an area that allows such a luxury, and live in a time that gives so much more.

Just the past week I have seen people come together for great causes, kids outside having a blast and felt the excitement of individuals as they prepared for a performance. Tiny moments and emotions that are buzzing all around us just waiting to be heard. These stories are not something you see on the cover of USA Today, but combined they create the community we all know.

So much love and good feeling hidden around this tiny corner of New England. Every day is a new experience waiting to happen, for better or worse. Waking up each morning is like opening a favorite book to the newest chapter.

I can feel, and man does it feel good to be alive. I can think, and there is so much to think about I can breathe, and each breath is amazing.

These are just some of the thoughts that are passing through my mind on this rainy day. A nice moment of peace before things get busy or breaking news pops up. What more could I ask for?

Now the sun is coming out once more. A flock of birds have come to the window to remind me that I still have work to do today. A flurry of email notifications solidly confirm that fact for me quite nicely.

It is all good.

There is nothing like the sun coming out after the rain to get the blood flowing and electrify the spirit. It is time to get things done, but there will always be another rainy day to remind me just how lucky it feels to do be able to do them.
