The Amherst Fire Department is seeking volunteers.

Are you ready to join the growing team of Amherst Firefighters?

The Amherst Fire Department is seeking new recruits to join its team of 40 volunteers in protecting the lives and ensuring safety.

The team of volunteers has been steadily growing in recent years, according to fire chief Mark Boynton, and he wants to see it continue.

“We are putting a lot of effort into it,” he said. “When you have a good organization, people want to join. We respect people and they become a true part of the team.”

Anybody can join the department as long as they can meet the significant time requirements needed in serving the community. Boynton said he welcomes diversity, as it is a key component of a successful volunteer base.

“We have a great bunch of people, and diversity makes for a great department,” he said. “We have everything from accountants, electricians, pilots and everything in between.”

Firefighters are required to complete the 240-hour certified firefighter program within two years of joining the team.
