HOPKINTON, NH — New Hampshire State Police troopers are investigating a crash on Interstate 89 that sent four people to the hospital on Monday.

Around 3:30 p.m., a rollover crash with entrapment and injuries was reported on the southbound side of the highway near Mile Marker 9.4, between Exit 6 and Exit 5. When they arrived, they found a 2003 Toyota Matrix on its side, entangled with a 2017 Volkswagen Golf, in the wooded area separating both sides of the highway. State police said “multiple trees” had fallen on the vehicles, “complicating rescue efforts.”

Three people in the Matrix, with serious injuries, and the driver of the Golf were taken to the hospital. I-89 south was closed for an hour while the occupants were extricated. Later, one lane of the highway opened during the investigation.
