New Hampshire's White Mountains Open For New Season
White Mountains Attractions: Some locations will be open Memorial Day weekend; other tourist operations will start in mid-June.
From NH White Mountains: With Memorial Day weekend upon us, attractions in New Hampshire's White Mountains are set to open for the season. Many will be open on weekends through mid-June, and then start their daily operations. Visitors this year can expect some new experiences at their favorite places.
"Our attractions don't hibernate over the winter," said Jayne O'Connor, president of White Mountains Attractions, the organization that markets the region. "Many of them have spent the past six months creating new rides and new thrills to unveil to visitors this summer. It's great to see this kind of investment."
Those attractions include:

- Alpine Adventures in Lincoln has added the first Powerfan free-fall device in the US, the BigAirBag Stuntzone and the Colossus Stunt Ramp;
- Attitash Mountains Resort in Bartlett will debut a new 70' x 70' Splash Pad featuring 15 different water elements that will spray, drizzle, and shower water down on kids and parents alike. Attitash will also host Circus Smirkus for four shows in August;
- Clark's Trading Post in Lincoln has a new laser shooting gallery opening in June. Tuttle's Shootin' Gallery will maintain the rustic charm of the Tuttle "family home" that guests remember, while they test their trigger-nometry skills shooting at 60 targets;
- Lost River Gorge, North Woodstock, will open its giant bird's nest later this summer, offering visitors a bird's eye view of the Mountains and valleys that stretch before them from the top of Kinsman Notch;
- The Mount Washington Auto Road in Pinkham Notch will break ground this summer on a new Glen House Hotel, and will offer a new longer, three-hour guided tour of the tallest mountain in the Northeast;
- The Mount Washington Cog Railway, Bretton Woods, is completing a new summit switch and some passengers may find themselves making the ride to the summit of Mount Washington in a new coach;
- Whales Tale Water Park in Lincoln opens with its new Akua Beach PacSurf Proflow Double surf ride.
And celebrating a milestone anniversary is the Hobo Railroad, marking 30 years in Lincoln this summer.
"The summer season over the past several years has been really strong, and in some cases it has been record breaking. We anticipate another strong summer, and continued upgrades at the attractions," O'Connor said, attributes the success to worldwide promotion of the region by the organization, including Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, in addition a to the United States and Canada. "Our attractions, set in such natural beauty, really are a draw for visitors looking for this kind of experience."
