Vermont Trucker Dies After Crashing Into I-93 Guardrail And Into The Winnipesaukee River In Tilton

Benjamin Willson of Granby, VT, was killed after he crashed a truck, drove down an embankment, and across railroad tracks on Friday morning.

TILTON, NH — A man from Vermont died Friday morning after a crash on Interstate 93 in Tilton.

Just before 2 a.m., state police received a report about a crash on the southbound side of the highway near Mile Marker 57. When they arrived, troopers found a 2025 Black Western Star tractor and a 2017 Blue Maniac trailer had driven into a guardrail, down an embankment, across railroad tracks, and into the side of the Winnipesaukee River.

Benjamin A. Willson, 48, of Granby, VT, was killed during the crash.

State police said the crash was still under investigation and troopers did not know why Willson failed to negotiate a curve in the highway, which is where they believe the incident began. The left lane of the highway around Mile Marker 57 remains closed and delays are expected in the area.

Troopers were assisted by Tilton-Northfield Fire District, the Tilton Police Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
