5 Things to Do with the Kids Over School Vacation Week
We've got some great options for February vacation week fun.
If you're not heading for warmer climates or the ski hills this school vacation, you might be looking for things to keep your kids occupied. Here are five great options:
1. America's Stonehenge in Salem: Many people don't even realize a place like this even exists in southern New Hampshire. It's a great spot to take kids for a winter hike. You can either walk the trail and explore the many caves, or rent snowshoes to cross the snowy terrain. There's also a short movie to watch before you head out that gives you a quick history lesson on the site and alpacas you can visit with before and after you head out. Admission is $11 for adults and $6.50 for children.
2. The SEE Science Center in Manchester: Located in the Manchester mills, this is a great place for kids to have some fun while also learning about science. There's a play area for younger kids and all sorts of fun experiments for kids to try out. There are also shows at regular intervals, and an entire Lego version of Manchester. Admission is $8.
3. The New Hampshire Children's Museum in Dover: Another hidden gem, this one is geared more toward younger kids, with a yellow submarine, an osprey habitat and a dinosaur excavation area. There's also a craft area, plus a train table, reading room and toddler area upstairs. Admission is $9.
4. Amesbury Sports Park in Amesbury, MA: If you don't feel like heading all the way up north to the ski areas, or if you just don't want to spend all that money, just over the border in Massachusetts is the Amesbury Sports Park. For $27 a person, you can rent a tube and sled for hours. Of course, if you really want to save money, you can always go sledding instead at one of these free sledding spots.
5. See "The Lego Movie": If your kids haven't seen this already, they're going to love it. Best of all, it's one of a growing number of children's movies that are entertaining for adults as well, thanks to lots of inside jokes and a plot that mirrors "The Matrix." Already seen it? See it again in 3D or in the new motion seats offered in some theaters.
