83-Year-Old Missing; Search Underway In Lake Massabesic

UPDATE 9/12/20 6:50 PM - Missing man identified by NH Marine Patrol - Search Suspended Until Sunday Morning

Officers arrived on scene to learn that Joseph Moreau, age 83, of Methuen, MA was missing off his canoe that he launched by himself at Clair’s Landing. Auburn Police and Fire, NH Fish and Game, Auburn Watershed Police, NH State Police- Troop A and Marine Patrol responded. Joseph’s son provided a photo and the name of the missing person.

AUBURN, NH - Auburn, NH police were notified Friday night of a 83-year-old Massachusetts man who had gone fishing in Lake Massabesic and had not returned. Auburn, NH Fire and Police with assistance of other agencies searched and found his canoe in the lake, and it was upright and had all his gear but no sign of the man.

The search for the man was suspended at about 1:30 am Saturday morning until sunrise.

Saturday Morning Multiple crews assembled from Auburn Fire, Hooksett Fire, Manchester Watershed Patrol, NH Fish and Game, and NH Marine Patrol. Units launched several boats to search the water, and utilized several off-road vehicles to search shore lines and wooded areas.

NH Fish and Game say the man is 83-years old and appears to have been fishing when he didn’t return to shore. NH Fish and Game is now using side scan radar in boats to search, and the NH Fish and Game Dive Team is on the scene.

His vehicle was found at “Claire’s Landing” in Auburn, NH. on the East side of the lake and near a boat launch.

Multiple family members are on the scene, while search crews coordinate efforts to find the man.

As of the time of this post the man has not been located.
