Derry Man Arrested After Scuffle with Police

A Derry man was arrested Wednesday for pushing a Manchester police officer and knocking over a cigarette ash container.

Adam Couto, 21, is charged with disorderly conduct, simple assault and resisting arrest.

Manchester Police Officer Casey Finn said he was patrolling the Elm Street area on Wednesday when he observed Couto standing in front of Murphy’s Tap Room at 494 Elm St. The officer saw Couto pick up a cigarette ash container and throw it to the ground.

When the officer stopped to investigate further, Couto became increasingly belligerent, yelling obscenities at the officer and pushing him in the shoulder. The officer was able to take Couto into custody after a minor struggle.
