'Fight' Coming to Repeal Funding for $800M I-93 Project?

The state's "most important project" could soon generate a legislative battle over millions of tax dollars.

A politician from Derry says House Public Works and Highways Committee Vice Chairman John Cloutier (D-Claremont) should "expect a fight" if he wants to remove the priority funding status for the $800 million Interstate 93 widening, according to the Eagle-Tribune.

The paper has reported that State Reps. Jim Webb (D-Derry) and Mary Griffin (R-Windham) recently spoke out against Cloutier's bill to give the state flexibility to fund other projects before the I-93 work. Cloutier said he's looking for a repeal of the priority status because money is "scarce" and because New Hampshire has other roads and bridges to fix.

Read the full story about the new development in the project - which New Hampshire Department of Transportation Commissioner Chris Clement has said is the state's 'most important project' — here.
