Manchester Police Call NHSP Troopers To Assist With Angry Crowd
A pedestrian accident reportedly seriously injured an elderly woman at Union St and Valley St. NHSP requested to assist with a large crowd.
MANCHESTER, NH - Manchester police called for the assistance of New Hampshire State Police Thursday as an incident at Union Street and Valley Street unfolded.
A broadcast over the State Police radio called for all available units in Troop B to respond “Code 3” to assist Manchester Police.
Based on initial information gathered at the scene an elderly woman was crossing Valley Street at Union Street when witnesses say a vehicle struck her. A relative of the woman said she lives near the intersection was reportedly going to the convenience store when she was allegedly struck by the car at about 8:15 p.m.

The woman was reportedly rushed to the Elliot Hospital by AMR ambulance with what appeared to be serious and life-threatening injuries.
A very large crowd of people upset about the accident quickly gathered. The driver of the car that was reported to be involved remained at the scene. The crowd grew angry and began yelling and challenging police as to why the driver had not been arrested.

As the crowd grew in size Manchester police asked for support from State Police. Multiple Troopers arrived at the scene and assisted about 20 Manchester police to try to control the crowd.
At one point the crowd began pushing across the crime scene tape, and swearing at and pushing the officers. Officers attempted to push the crowd away from the crime scene tape. One man began to physically challenge officers and he was handcuffed and removed from the scene. It is unknown if he faces any charges.
The Manchester Police Traffic Division arrived at the scene at about 9:30 and began processing the accident scene.
The Manchester Police dispatch log entry at 8:12 p.m. says "fatal accident”. Manchester police as of 11:00 p.m. have not released any information about the situation.
