3. PATRIOTS WIN: The New England Patriots kicked off their 2013 NFL campaign with a tight 23-21 victory over the Buffalo Bills. They will get right back to work on Thursday at home against the New York Jets.
4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On this day in 1776, the Continental Congress formally declares the name of the new nation to be the "United States" of America. This replaced the term "United Colonies," which had been in general use.
