Obama Surprises Residents at Mack's Apples

The President made an appearance at the farm stand before heading to Windham.

With a crowd of 2,300 residents waiting for President Barack Obama's motorcade to arrive at Windham High School, he decided that it wouldn't hurt to take a few minutes and stop in Londonderry, grabbing some fresh produce at Mack's Apples.

The stay was brief, but the President had everyone's attention as he greeted residents eating ice cream and purchased some products inside.

According to Rose Searles, who walked around with Obama for much of the visit and sold Obama apples and peaches, he insisted on paying.

Another employee, Eveylyn Keller, even talked the President into buying some maple syrup to bring home to the White House.

The visit came with only 30 minutes of notice to Londonderry Police, according to another worker in the farmstand.

But it wasn't the first time Obama has made an appearance at Londonderry's trademark farmstand.

During his 2008 campaign run, before he even secured the Democratic nomination, Obama also checked out the farmstand. There, he gave a stump speech next to the orchard adjacent to Pillsbury Road, down near the pond.

Despite the pitstop, the President still arrived in Windham about an hour ahead of his scheduled appearance.

Obama took two bags of apples back to Washington D.C. after his appearances in Windham and Rochester, where he is shown stepping out of a helicopter with the food in hand.
