4. Black Henna Tattoos Harmful: The Federal Food and Drug Administration is warning against so-called black henna, the dye used in temporary tattoos offered at tourist destinations and other specialty shops, as more users report allergic reactions. Henna is a naturally occurring reddish-brown pigment that comes from a plant indigenous to tropical and subtropical regions of Africa and Asia. But black henna is a different product altogether that actually might not include any natural henna at all. A key ingredient in that dye is p-phenylenediamine, or PPD, the same chemical used in hair coloring, and can cause blisters, lesions and scarring.
5. Born Today? It's a birthday bonanza! You share your birthday with Mr. Spock, aka Leonard Nimoy (1931); Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (1940); Watergate journalist Bob Woodward (1943); singer Diana Ross, (1945); Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler 1948); Teddy Pendergrass of Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes (1950); Kenny Chesney (1968); and actress Kiera Knightly (1985).
