5 Things: Must-See September 11 Speaker in Hudson Wednesday

1. Art Appreciation Night: Consider taking a drive to Langdon Place, 319 Dunstable Road, at 5 p.m. tonight to see the "Homemade Happiness" art exhibition. Artists reception 5-7 p.m. Details here.

2. SNL Announces Season Opener Host(ess): Look for the return of longtime writer and cast member, Tina Fey, as host of the NBC late-night institution's 39th season premiere on Sept. 28. She will be joined by rock bank Arcade Fire. Then, secure the Teddy bears for week 2 when Miley Cyrus does double duty, as host and musical guest on Oct. 5, followed by Bruce Willis on Oct. 12, joined by songstress Katy Perry. Now you know. No word yet on who will fill out the empty spaces in the ensemble left by the departure of Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis.

3. September 11 Ceremony Tomorrow in Hudson:  Make a point of attending Wednesday night's gathering in Hudson, with guest speaker Retired NYC Det. Spike Cutolo. You can read more about her here. Event begins at 6:30 in Benson's Park.

4. World Happiness Report is In!  Don't be sad, but the U.S. is not among the 5 happiest countries in the world. Those would be: Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Sweden. We are No. 17, which out of 165 countries, isn't bad. The saddest places were: Rwanda, Burundi, the Central African Republic, Benin and Togo. Suffering below us on the list: United Kingdom (22nd), France (25th), Germany (26th) and China (93rd). However, Canada (6th), Israel (11th) Costa Rica (12th) and Mexico (16th) placed higher. Read more here. Six variables likely contributed to this year's findings, according to the United Nations, which conducts the annual report. They are: Real GDP per capita; healthy life expectancy; having someone to count on; perceived freedom to make life choices; freedom from corruption; and generosity.

5. On This Day in History...: Back in 1945 singer Jose Feliciano was born, making him 68 today. Most remembered for his Christmas hit, "Feliz Navidad," Feliciano, who was born blind, continues to perform. Check him out here.
