Former Telegraph Publisher Honored by United Way
Terry Williams has won the United Way's 2013 Max I. Silber Community Service Award.

Terrence L. “Terry” Williams, who was a prominent figure in the Nashua community for nearly two decades until his departure from Telegraph Publishing Co., earlier this year, is the winner of United Way’s 2013 Max I. Silber Community Service Award. The award is presented to members of the Greater Nashua community who exemplify the ideals of community service and volunteerism.
Silber Award recipients commit an inordinate amount of time in service to others through multiple organizations over several years. In April, Williams was named president and chief operating officer of The Keene Sentinel and SentinelSource.com, following almost 19 years as publisher of Telegraph Publishing Co., which was sold to an out-of-state newspaper group.
“Terry Williams has served the non-profit community through involvement in and leadership of numerous cornerstone organizations throughout Greater Nashua,” said Paul Hebert, United Way of Greater Nashua president. “He has been a tireless advocate for the least fortunate in our community through the annual Santa Fund drive, which is coordinated by the Front Door Agency, the Salvation Army and the Nashua Telegraph. He has continuously led by example through his own service and volunteerism, and encouraged his employees to support the community through an annual United Way payroll giving campaign.”
A former chairman of the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, Williams also served as president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Nashua, where he was on the board since 2006.
“Terry’s commitment to our organization and the children we serve runs deep and that is evident by the time, dedication and financial support he brings to help fulfill our mission to help children reach their full potential,” said Joy Barrett, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Nashua. “His passion to get involved and his ability to share his knowledge with the groups in which he proudly associates himself are admirable. Terry is caring, dedicated, reliable, motivated and passionate about our community and all of us who live here; making our area a better place to live.”
United Way of Greater Nashua will present the Max I. Silber Community Service Award to Williams on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at its Campaign Kick-off, which will be held during an appreciation barbecue for Day of Caring volunteers. The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. outside St. Philip Greek Orthodox Church, 500 West Hollis Street, Nashua.
In the event of rain, the event will be moved inside the church hall.
Several former Silber Award winners are expected to attend, including: 2006 recipient Mayor Donnalee Lozeau; Rodney Hansen, Jr. (2003); and John Sias (1997).
