Man Without License Charged in Hit-and-Run

Police say Thyarls De Souza rear-ended a vehicle on Canal Street and then drove off.

Thyarls De Souza, 25, of 530 Willard St., Quincy, Mass., was arrested May 20, charged for leaving the scene of a hit-and-run accident in Nashua.

On May 20 at about 3:40 p.m. Nashua Police responded to the area of 49 Canal St. for a report of a hit-and-run rear-end collision. Damage to vehicles was light, however the operator of the vehicle which was struck was transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The operator of the vehicle which allegedly caused the damage left the scene without identifying himself.

Police further investigated this incident and developed De Souza as a suspect. He was charged with conduct after an accident, a class B felony, and a violation level offense for operating without a valid license.

A class B felony is punishable by up to seven years imprisonment, exclusive of fines. A violation is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000. De Souza is currently being held at the Nashua Police Department on $7,500.00 cash/ surety bail pending his arraignment at the 9th Circuit Nashua District Division Court on May 20.
