Nashua Man Charged Following Hit-And-Run in Hudson

Derek Gaudet faces a number of charges.

A Nashua man faces DUI charges after eluding police and crashing his car in Hudson.

Derek Gaudet, 24, of Nashua, was arrested by Hudson Police on May 20, charged with two counts of disobeying a police officer, two counts of conduct after an accident, resisting arrest and DWI.

At about 5:15 p.m. Hudson Police Department began receiving reports of an erratic operator in the area of Derry Street and the Town Common. While officers were in the area looking for the driver, the Hudson Police Department received reports of a hit-and-run accident at the corner of Derry Street and Cummings Street. It was reported that a black vehicle crashed through a fence on the property and fled the area. While an officer was on scene investigating this accident, witnesses pointed to a black vehicle traveling north on Derry Street as the hit and run vehicle.

The officer attempted to make contact with the driver, later identified as Gaudet, who accelerated away from the officer before turning onto the property of 50 Derry Street and colliding with a tree causing air bag deployment.

When the officer approached the motor vehicle, the driver fled on foot into a wooded area. The vehicle was identified as a 2006 Honda Accord. Other officers in the area located the driver exiting the wooded area on Daw Street and placed Gaudet into custody without incident.

Gaudet was transported to the Southern NH Medical Center by the Hudson Fire Department to be evaluated for minor injuries. Gaudet was later released on $2,500 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the 9th Circuit Court – Nashua Division on May 30, 2013.
