Nashua Man With Marijuana Resisted Arrest: Police

Police said Joseph Reis, of Nashua, sped away from police officers then struggled with them in Hudson.

HUDSON, NH — A Nashua driver was arrested in Hudson Tuesday and charged with a host of crimes after police said he sped away from officers then struggled with them as he was taken into custody. Joseph Reis, 51, was later found with marijuana in his vehicle, according to police.

The incident happened Tuesday at about 3:30 p.m. on Central Street as officers investigated a report of a disturbance, according to Hudson police Lieutenant Michael Gosselin.

"While investigating the incident, an officer attempted to make contact with a suspect (Reis) in the disturbance who was driving a van that was parked on Hurley Street," Gosselin said in a statement. "While an officer stood near the van in an attempt to speak with the driver, he sped away onto Central Street."

Gosselin continued, "(Reis) then stopped the van several feet from the intersection with Library Street, and he refused to open the vehicle door or roll down the window. The officers were able to make entry into the van after breaking a window on the vehicle. After a short struggle, the officers took the male subject into custody."

  • Resisting arrest
  • Resisting detention (two counts)
  • Obstructing government administration
  • Disobeying a police officer
  • Possession of less than three-quarters of an ounce of marijuana

Reis was held on $5,000 bail pending an arraignment in Nashua District Court Wednesday.
