NH Mom Killed, Child Hurt, Heroin Found After Crash: Police

Police in Winchendon, Massachusetts, said Lindsey Sheldon was killed after a head-on crash.

WINCHENDON, MA — Police are investigating whether heroin played a role in a fatal crash this week in Massachusetts that killed a New Hampshire mother and injured her 3-year-old daughter and three others. The deceased was identified as Lindsey Sheldon, 32, of Winchester, New Hampshire. The injured were expected to survive, according to police.

The crash happened in Winchendon, Massachusetts, Thursday at about 9 a.m. on School Street. Sheldon was driving a Honda CR-V sport utility vehicle when she crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a Mercedes Sprinter van, police said. Sheldon was medflighted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where she was pronounced dead.

Sheldon's 3-year-old daughter and a 32-year-old woman were in the SUV at the time of the crash and two men were in the van, police said. They were transported to area hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police said "a quantity of suspected heroin ... along with various drug paraphernalia" was found in Sheldon's SUV. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
