Public Works Week: Downtown Sidewalk Project Update

More concrete will be poured; more green spaces will be created. Let there be sidewalks.

It's National Public Works Week, which means it's a good week to step back and appreciate the hard-working individuals who keep the streets repaired and plowed, the sidewalk project going, the Broad Street Parkway preliminary work on schedule, trash picked-up, wastewater managed – and so much more.

If you missed this weekend's celebration at Stellos Stadium, it was a lot of fun and quite informative. I've uploaded some photos and a video here for you.

Also here: Last week's Sidewalk Project update from Public Works Director Lisa Fauteax, which includes this week's projected work schedule.

Night work on the Main Street Bridge crosswalk continued Monday night between the hours of 10:45 p.m. and 6:45 a.m.

From the Public Works Department:

During the week of May 13, we formed and poured five pads of concrete, installed three bollards, one granite planter with a tree well, green space with a tree well and work on the mid-block crosswalk on the Main Street Bridge began.

The electrical work in front of Cooking Matters was completed. Two pads of concrete were planned to be poured on Saturday, May 18 in front of Cooking Matters. Due to an unexpected conflict with a sewer manhole that required masonry work, the brick work originally planned for this week did not begin.

Week of May 20: We plan to form and pour 5 to 6 more pads of concrete. The brick work will begin on the West side of Block 2. Our intention is to install additional green space and a light pole foundation. The work will continue on the crosswalk on the Main Street Bridge. All concrete pads will have tarps over them after they are poured for seven to ten days. You will be able to walk on the pads during this time and a green carpet will delineate the walkway for pedestrians. Green carpet will lead pedestrians directly into your storefront to clearly indicate that you are open for business.

We will continue to limit the obstruction of parking and lanes. Unfortunately, it is necessary to take parking spaces where we are working. Our schedule is tentative and subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. We will continue to do our best to minimize impacts to your business. Please do not hesitate to contact Roy Sorenson, Superintendent of Streets, or Andy Patrician, Operations Manager on site or at 589-3140.
