Armed Robber Holds Up Mobil on the Run at Gunpoint

Emergency communications is reporting the Portsmouth Police K-9 unit is on scene searching for a male suspect who fled on foot.

UPDATED, 10:11 p.m.: Portsmouth Police said an armed robber walked into the Mobil on the Run convenience store on Islington Street on Saturday night, pointed a semi-automatic pistol at the store clerk and demanded cash.

Portsmouth Police Sgt. Christopher Roth said the armed robbery suspect, who he described as a man in his 50s with beard stubble, blue jeans and a dark hooded sweatshirt, pointed a gun at the store clerk while the store clerk was waiting on him and demanded the cash out of the register.

Roth said the store clerk obliged and was then ordered to the ground before the armed robbery suspect fled the store. Roth said the store clerk reported the crime to police at around 7:20 p.m.
