Big Snowstorm Coming This Weekend

Just two weeks after digging out of the Blizzard of 2013, the Portsmouth area could see another foot of snow this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, a nor'easter is heading up the coast that will arrive sometime on Saturday night and snow into Sunday morning. By the time it winds down, the snow storm could leave another 12 inches for residents to shovel and snow blow and city Public Works crews to remove.

Portsmouth Public Works crews had recently finished clearing all of the city sidewalks and roads of the nearly two feet of snow from the Blizzard of 2013 just in time for the new snow storm.

Unlike the Blizzard of 2013 that delivered mostly light, fluffy snow, this weekend's nor'easter will produce some rain and snow, which could make snow removal more challenging.

The storm will start off with rain before 8 p.m. on Saturday before it changes over to snow and then it will become a mixture of rain and snow on Sunday morning with a high temperature of 35 degrees.

Portsmouth area supermarkets will more than likely be busier than usual on Friday as Portsmouth area residents stock up on groceries, ice melt and other essential snow storm supplies.
