BLIZZARD WARNING: City to Get 2 Feet of Snow

National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning and a coastal flood warning for the Portsmouth area from Friday through Saturday.

Portsmouth area residents can expect to be pummeled with as much as 2 feet of snow, high winds and some coastal flooding when winter storm Nemo arrives early Friday afternoon.

On Thursday evening, the National Weather Service had issued a blizzard warning and coastal flood warning for Portsmouth and the Seacoast area. The blizzard warning is in effect from 2 p.m. Friday until 4 p.m. on Saturday.

During the day, the city is expected to get about 2- to 4 inches from a light snowfall. The blizzard will then kick into high gear on Friday afternoon and continue through Friday night when the Portsmouth area is expected to hit the jackpot with 11- to 17 inches of snow.

The heavy snow combined with blustery winds with gusts up to 36 mph will create hazardous driving conditions and widespread power outages. By the time the blizzard subsides on Sunday, the sun will return and there could be as much as 2 feet of snow.
