City Calls for Third Parking Ban Tuesday Night

Portsmouth Pubic Works Department will remove more snow from downtown streets from 8 p.m. on Tuesday to 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

City Public Works crews will remove more snow on Tuesday night from several downtown streets after a second parking ban goes into effect.

Steve Parkinson, director of the Portsmouth Public Works Department, issued a press release on Tuesday saying the third parking ban is necessary so more sidewalks can be cleared on several city streets. The Blizzard of 2013 dumped 2 feet of snow on the city last weekend and city Public Works crews have been working to remove snow since the storm started on Friday.

The parking ban will go into effect at 8 p.m. and affect the following streets: Hanover Street – (Rock to Market), Bridge Street, Deer Street – (Bridge to Market), Bow Street – (Daniel to Chapel), Market Street - (Deer to Russell), Ladd Street, High Street – (Hanover to Deer), Maplewood Avenue - (Congress to Deer), Russell Street, Ceres Street, Middle Street – (Richards to Congress), Islington Street – (Brewster to Maplewood), Summer Street – (Middle to Islington), State Street – (Cabot to Middle), Winter Street, Austin Street – (Summer to Cabot), Rogers Street, Parrott Avenue, Chatham Street.

Any vehicles that are parked on these city streets after the parking ban goes into effect will be ticketed and towed.
