City Police Det. Aaron Goodwin Promoted to Sergeant
Portsmouth Police Commission approves promotion during Wednesday night meeting.

On Wednesday evening, the Portsmouth Police Commission unanimously voted to promote Detective Aaron Goodwin to the rank of Sergeant effective January 1, 2013. Sergeant Goodwin will initially be assigned to the Patrol Division.
Goodwin has been a law enforcement officer for ten years. He was hired by the Portsmouth Police Department in 2005. Prior to this he worked for the Town of Farmington. He began his Portsmouth career in the Patrol Division for three years before progressing to the Detective Division where he currently serves.
As a patrol officer, Goodwin distinguished himself through his completion of the Drug Evaluation and Classification program resulting in his appointment as a Drug Recognition Expert. He was appointed as a Field Training Officer, a Firearms Instructor, Explorer Advisor, and he served as a member of the Seacoast Emergency Response Team (SERT).

During his tenure in Detectives, Goodwin worked as the Portsmouth Middle School Resource Officer before being assigned to undercover drug investigations. Eventually he was assigned to general investigations where he currently handles felony level cases to include investigating the cities cold case homicides.
Outside of the police department, Goodwin is the Vice-Chairman of The Working Dog Foundation, a Portsmouth based non-profit that raises money to grant and train police canines.

Goodwin lives on the Seacoast with his wife and children.
