Couch Fire Results in Portsmouth Man's Arrest

The following information was provided by the Portsmouth Police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Portsmouth Police log from Tuesday, Nov. 26 and Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Tuesday:

  • At 11:22 a.m., police reported criminal threatening on Holiday Driver after the caller said she received a threatening voice mail.
  • At 12:06 p.m., police received a fraud complaint on Sheffield Road where the caller said the alleged perpetrator forged checks and made deposits for an undisclosed amount of money.
  • At 12:12 p.m., police arrested a Rochester man who was wanted as a fugitive from justice after he turned himself in at the police station. William J. Hernandez, 26, of 19 Charles St. was wanted for two bench warrants.
  • At 2:09 p.m., police arrested a juvenile for snatching a woman's purse on Sherburne Road.
  • At 3:39 p.m., police reported a hit and run accident on Lafayette Road.
Wednesday:
  • At 12:33 p.m., police reported a theft of lottery tickets on Lafayette Road.
  • At 3:03 p.m., police reported a two-car accident on Lafayette Road without injury.
  • At 9:38 p.m., police reported criminal mischief on Osprey Driver after the Portsmouth Fire Department reported a suspicious couch fire that led to the arrest of Christopher Raymond, 41, of 160 Osprey Driver for criminal mischief (vandalism) and reckless conduct; place another in danger.
  • At 11:05 p.m., police reported disorderly conduct on Bow Street after the staff at Fat Belly's Grill would not allow a patron to enter. The male subject then threatened to smash the restaurant's windows before he left the scene.
