Downtown Parking Ban Goes into Effect Sunday Night

City Public Works crews need to conduct snow removal on several downtown streets following the Blizzard of 2013.

The city Public Works Department has ordered a downtown parking ban on Sunday night to allow crews to remove more snow on several streets following the Blizzard of 2013.

According to Steve Parkinson, director of the Portsmouth Public Works Department, the downtown parking ban went into effect at 8 p.m. on the following streets:

Court Street – (Middle to Pleasant), Chestnut Street, Fleet Street - (Court to Congress), Court Place, Church Street, Pleasant Street - (Court to Congress), Hanover Street – (Rock to Maplewood), Bridge Street, Deer Street – (Bridge to Market), Islington Street – (Brewster to Maplewood). State Street – (Middle to Marcy), Penhallow Street - (State to Daniel), Custom House Court, Sheafe Street, Chapel Street - (State to Daniel). Porter Street, Washington Street – (Court to State).

A downtown parking ban has also been ordered at 12 midnight for the following streets:

Daniel Street, Congress Street, Bow Street, Chapel Street - (Daniel to Bow), Penhallow Street - (Daniel to Bow),  Market Street - (Congress to Russell),  Ladd Street,  High Street - (Congress to Ladd),  High Street – (Hanover to Deer), Fleet Street - (Congress to Hanover),  Maplewood Avenue - (Congress to Deer), Hanover Street - (Maplewood to Market),  Russell Street.

Parkinson said that any vehicles that are parked on these city streets during the parking ban will be ticketed and towed.
