Eco-Friendly Affordable Housing Project Makes Progress
Hyder Court development will provide six apartments in two buildings with some state of the art environmentally-friendly features.
There is no doubt that Portsmouth continues to be a hot bed of residential and commercial development in just about every part of the city, including the relatively quiet Dennett Street neighborhood.
For the past several months, construction crews have been building a new affordable housing development near the Holiday Inn on Woodbury Avenue that will include some modern, eco-friendly features to reduce stormwater runoff and other energy efficiencies.
Hyder Court was designed by McHenry Architecture of Portsmouth and is being built by Careno Construction and Ambit Engineering. It is located at 677 Dennett St. across Woodbury Avenue from the Holiday Inn.

When finished, the McHenry Architects website states it will consist of two buildings and six affordable apartment units. "The objective is to create an efficient and well-planned site and buildings that will provide much needed housing while enhancing the existing neighborhood," the website reads.
The development will also include features like rain gardens and bio-swales to reduce stormwater runoff from the site. The units could be completed by the end of this summer and available to rent later this fall.
