First Night Portsmouth festivities begin on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. and continue through midnight. There are various activities in and around downtown Portsmouth, including a Battle of the Bands, a street dance and the ice sculptures in Market Square. And of course, there will be fireworks at 7:30 p.m. at South Mill Pond. First Night buttons for the indoor activities can be purchased for $25 on the day of event.
