Five Things You Need to Know Today, Feb. 11
Blizzard of 2013 clean up continues; City Council to hold work session; rain and snow in the forecast.
1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is calling for some rain and snow before it changes over to all rain during the afternoon with a high temperature of 40 degrees. On Monday night, there will be a chance of more rain with a low temperature around 32 degrees.
2. Blizzard of 2013 clean up continues: The Portsmouth Public Works Department will continue to clear sidewalks and other parts of the downtown area following the Blizzard of 2013, which dumped up to 2 feet of snow on the city this past weekend.
3. City Council work session tonight: The Portsmouth City Council is scheduled to hold a work session at City Hall at 6:30 p.m. about a recent city water/sewer rate study.

4. Prescott Park slips lottery: City officials are currently accepting applications for seasonal slip rentals on the Prescott Park docks from now until Feb. 15. There are 10 slips and a lottery is held to determine which applicants will get to use them. Application forms and seasonal rates can be accessed on the city's website.
5. AARP to offer free tax assistance: The AARP will offer Portsmouth area residents free 2012 income tax return preparation assistance at the Portsmouth Public Library through Sunday, April 14. The service will offered from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. People should call 2-1-1 to make an appointment and walk-ins are also welcome.
