Five Things You Need to Know Today, Feb. 12

Blizzard of 2013 clean up continues; School Board meeting tonight; sunshine returns.

1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is calling for a mostly sunny day with a high near 42 degrees. On Tuesday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low around 26 degrees.

2. School Board meeting: The Portsmouth School Board will meet on Tuesday at City Hall at 7 p.m. The agenda can be viewed on the city's website.

3. Blizzard of 2013 clean up continues: The Portsmouth Public Works Department will continue to clear sidewalks and other parts of the downtown area following the Blizzard of 2013, which dumped up to 2 feet of snow on the city this past weekend.

4. Prescott Park slips lottery: City officials are currently accepting applications for seasonal slip rentals on the Prescott Park docks from now until Feb. 15. There are 10 slips and a lottery is held to determine which applicants will get to use them. Application forms and seasonal rates can be accessed on the city's website.

5. AARP to offer free tax assistance: The AARP will offer Portsmouth area residents free 2012 income tax return preparation assistance at the Portsmouth Public Library through Sunday, April 14. The service will offered from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. People should call 2-1-1 to make an appointment and walk-ins are also welcome.
