Five Things You Need to Know Today, Feb. 13

Wayfinding signs meeting at the library; Blizzard of 2013 clean up continues; sunny day in the forecast.

1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is calling for a mostly sunny day with a high near 39 degrees. On Wednesday night, there will be a chance of snow and cloudy skies with a low around 26 degrees.

2. Wayfinding signs presentation: Members of the Portsmouth Planning Department will make a presentation about the city's new wayfinder signs project at the Portsmouth Public Library on Wednesday at 6 p.m. According to the city's website, city staff want to design a public wayfinding system that will provide the public with clear, concise and inviting information around the city to help people navigate by car, bicycle or on foot. 

3. Blizzard of 2013 clean up continues: The Portsmouth Public Works Department will continue to clear sidewalks and other parts of the downtown area following the Blizzard of 2013, which dumped up to 2 feet of snow on the city this past weekend. The work has now shifted from the Market Square area to the Maplewood Avenue and Islington Street area.

4. Prescott Park slips lottery: City officials are currently accepting applications for seasonal slip rentals on the Prescott Park docks from now until Feb. 15. There are 10 slips and a lottery is held to determine which applicants will get to use them. Application forms and seasonal rates can be accessed on the city's website.

5. Valentine's Day is Thursday: Valentine's Day is Thursday, Feb. 14 and there are several Portsmouth businesses that have plenty of great gift ideas that will appeal to your significant other.
