Five Things You Need to Know Today, Feb. 15

Father/Daughter Valentine's Dance is Saturday; President's Day is Monday; partly sunny day in the forecast.

1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is calling for a partly sunny day with a high near 45 degrees. On Friday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low around 27 degrees.

2. Father/Daughter Valentine's Dance: The Portsmouth Recreation Department's annual Father/Daughter Valentine's Day Dance will be held this Saturday, Feb. 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the new Connie Bean Center after last weekend's blizzard forced the event to be rescheduled. It costs $10 per couple and special corsages are given to the young ladies.

3. President's Day is Monday: President's Day falls on Monday, Feb. 18, and all city offices, the Portsmouth Public Library and the recycling center will be closed, but the Portsmouth Schools will be open.

4 Prescott Park boat slip rentals: Today is the last day to apply for the use of one of the city's 10 Prescott Park boat slips for the upcoming boating season. Applications must be received at City Hall before the end of today and a lottery will be held to determine which ones will be granted a boat slip rental.

5. Ice Fest continues at the Gas Light: Ice Fest continues at the Portsmouth Gas Light Co. with more live music, great food, and fun activities to benefit Strawbery Banke Museum, the Seacoast Repertory Theatre and Pro Portsmouth. The event runs through Saturday, Feb. 17.
