Nor'easter coming this weekend; Portsmouth Beer Week begins Saturday; sunny, cold day in the forecast.

1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is calling for a sunny day, with a high near 38 degrees. On Friday night, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 24 degrees.

2. Nor'easter on the way: The National Weather Service is calling for the Portsmouth area to get as much as a foot of snow on Saturday and Sunday from a nor'easter that is making its way up the coast.

3. Portsmouth Beer Week on tap: Portsmouth Beer Week begins on Saturday, Feb. 23 and runs through March 4.

4. Parking garage discussion: City Councilor Ken Smith will host an informal discussion with city residents this Saturday at the Works Bakery Cafe from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to hear their suggestions on where the city should build a new parking garage.

5. AARP to offer free tax assistance: The AARP will offer Portsmouth area residents free 2012 income tax return preparation assistance at the Portsmouth Public Library through Sunday, April 14. The service will offered from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. People should call 2-1-1 to make an appointment and walk-ins are also welcome.
