NH DOT commissioner to talk roads and bridges; Portsmouth Beer Week continues; rain in the forecast.

1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is calling for rain, mainly after 7 a.m., with a high temperature near 38 degrees. On Wednesday night, there will be more rain with a low temperature around 36 degrees.

2. Chamber to explore roads and bridges: Chris Clement, commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, is scheduled to discuss the challenges that lie ahead for the state's roads and bridges on Wednesday morning at the Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel as part of the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce's Bank of America Breakfast Series. The event runs from 7:30 to 9 a.m.

3. Portsmouth Beer Week on tap: Portsmouth Beer Week continues through  March 4.

4. Need an idea for February school vacation week?: Portsmouth School kids are off this week for their annual February school vacation week and if you are starting to run out of ideas to keep them busy, take them to the Children's Museum of New Hampshire in Dover.

5. AARP to offer free tax assistance: The AARP will offer Portsmouth area residents free 2012 income tax return preparation assistance at the Portsmouth Public Library through Sunday, April 14. The service will offered from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. People should call 2-1-1 to make an appointment and walk-ins are also welcome.
