Five Things You Need to Know Today, Feb. 28

City Parking and Traffic Safety Committee meeting this morning; Portsmouth Beer Week continues; more rain and snow in the forecast.

1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is calling for snow in the morning followed by a mix of rain and snow with a high temperature of 43 degrees. On Thursday night, there will be rain followed by a mix of rain and sleet before it changes over to snow after midnight with a low temperature around 30 degrees.

2. New parking garage site selection continues: The city's Parking and Traffic Safety Committee is scheduled to meet on Monday morning at 8 at City Hall to resume its work to select a new parking garage site.

3. Portsmouth Beer Week on tap: Portsmouth Beer Week continues through  March 4.

4. Need an idea for February school vacation week?: Portsmouth school kids are off this week for their annual February school vacation week and if you are starting to run out of ideas to keep them busy, take them to the Children's Museum of New Hampshire in Dover.

5. AARP to offer free tax assistance: The AARP will offer Portsmouth area residents free 2012 income tax return preparation assistance at the Portsmouth Public Library through Sunday, April 14. The service will offered from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. People should call 2-1-1 to make an appointment and walk-ins are also welcome.
