City seeing widespread flu; Portsmouth Police Commission budget hearing tonight; chance of showers in the forecast.

1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is calling for a chance of showers, mainly before 8 a.m., and then it will be mostly cloudy with gradual clearing and sunny skies with a high near 51. On Monday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low around 29. Northwest wind around 6 mph.

2. Get a flu shot: The Portsmouth area and New Hampshire are seeing widespread flu cases and health officials are encouraging people to get the flu vaccine shot at area pharmacies or at their health care provider's offices if they have not gotten a flu shot already.

3. Police commission meeting: The Portsmouth Police Commission will hold the first public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year 2014 Portsmouth Police budget at City Hall at 6 p.m.

4. Nominate Portsmouth Poet Laureate: Nominations are being accepted for Portsmouth Poet Laureate from now until Feb. 15.

5. "Sell a cell" at PHS: The Portsmouth High School Environmental Change Organization has teamed up with Revolution Energy to help Portsmouth High School invest in solar panels via the "Sell a Cell" program. Local community members can purchase a cell of a solar panel for $5 or a whole solar panel for $300. The panels will be installed at the high school to help defer energy costs.
