Five Things You Need to Know Today, Nov. 14

Today is deadline Holiday Parade floats and trailers; enter the Portsmouth Patch Facebook cover photo contest; much colder day in the forecast.

1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is calling for a sunny day with a high near 46. North wind 8 to 13 mph. On Wednesday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low around 31. North wind 7 to 9 mph.

2. Fire Commission meeting: The Portsmouth Fire Commission is meeting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Central Fire Station. The agenda is available on the city's web site.

3. Enter Facebook photo contest: Be sure to submit your photos for the Portsmouth Patch Facebook cover photo contest between now and 12 noon on Friday. Readers will then be able to comment on their favorite photos beginning on Nov. 19 through Nov. 23 and ultimately choose the best photo. The winner will receive a $50 gift card.

4. Restaurant Week continues: The Restaurant Week Portsmouth and the Seacooast continues until Nov. 17 and will feature several Portsmouth area restaurants that will offer great deals for lunch and dinner.

5. Portsmouth Holiday Parade deadline: Today is the deadline for all floats on flatbeds and towed trailers that wish to participate in the Portsmouth Holiday Parade on Dec. 1. The deadline for groups that wish to walk in the parade as well as vehicles without trailers, bicycle units, bands, etc. is Nov. 19.
