Great Bay Community College Holds Open Houses In Portsmouth, Rochester

PORTSMOUTH, NH — Great Bay Community College will host open houses in April at its Portsmouth and Rochester campuses. Admission counselors, academic advisors, professors, staff members, and others will talk with prospective students about career and academic opportunities available through a Great Bay education.

Open houses will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, at the Portsmouth campus, 320 Corporate Drive; and from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, at the Rochester campus, 5 Milton Road, Unit 32.

Great Bay is a student-first, outcome-oriented community college that offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in healthcare, business, STEM, and liberal arts. Courses are taught by credentialed faculty with years of experience in higher education and industry.

During the April open houses, students can explore the range of academic programs, meet faculty and staff, learn about the admissions process, and gain insight on all aspects of campus life, including opportunities in athletics. Great Bay is among the top transfer institutions to the University of New Hampshire, with a 90 percent acceptance rate among applicants from GBCC. The College also has direct transfer pathways to many degrees at UNH, including Bioengineering, Business Administration, Economics, and Hospitality Management. Great Bay offers career programs in such high-demand fields as information systems technology, surgical technology, veterinary technology, and nursing, as well as technical skill programs in welding and auto and motorcycle repair.

The Open House event in Rochester provides information solely on technical skill programs offered through the Rochester campus, including Welding, Computer Numeric Control (CNC), Automotive Technology and Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair. In addition to accessing program information, attendees can tour the college’s classrooms and new welding lab.

“Right now, Great Bay is a great fit for so many people because we are able to cater to a student’s individual needs,” Director of Admissions Steve Gorman said. “Whether they need help overcoming the effects of the pandemic and need to refresh their outlook, or if they want to earn a degree in a way that fits into their schedule and budget, students find what they need and want at Great Bay. We work with each individual student to ensure they get a solid return on their educational investment.”

Student success is the hallmark of a Great Bay education, thanks to the college’s nationally recognized Center for Academic Planning and Support, a multi-service center designed to serve students with their academic needs. To address growing needs, Great Bay has expanded its student resources to include access to a support staff, a food pantry, and low-cost dining options in partnership with the Portsmouth nonprofit Gather.

“Our advisors work one-on-one with students directly from day one through graduation, helping to select courses and major, set a schedule, and design a transfer pathway,” Gorman said. “Attending an open house is a great way for interested students to learn about programs, pathways, the admissions process, financial aid, and tour the campus.”
