Greenland Police Chief's Bravery, Sacrifice Honored Monday

WMUR reports that Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney's family members accepted the "Above and Beyond the Call of Duty" and "Career Service" awards.

Members of Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney's family received the Above and Beyond the Call of Duty and Career Service awards from the New Hampshire Congressional Delegation on Monday night in Concord. 

According to WMUR, Maloney's family received a standing ovation as they accepted awards on his behalf during the 2012 Congressional Law Enforcement Awards ceremony at the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training complex from U.S. Rep. Charles Bass, R-NH, U.S. Sens. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, Kelly Ayotte, R-NH, Bass and U.S. Rep. Frank Guinta, R-NH.

at the home of Cullen Mutrie on 517 Post Road in Greenland. Authorities determined that Mutrie and his ex-girlfriend, Brittany Tibbetts, were running an extensive drug trafficking operation from the home. When Maloney and four other police officers with the New Hampshire Attorney Generals Drug Task Force attempted to execute a warrant on the front porch, Mutrie opened fire and killed Maloney and wounded four police officers.

On Friday at 10 a.m., Gov. John Lynch will help the Greenland Police Department dedicate a patrol room at the station in honor of Maloney.
