Greenland Police Chief to be Honored

Michael Maloney was killed in a drug raid earlier this year.

Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney will be recognized by the New Hampshire congressional delegation on Monday night for the ultimate sacrifice he made last spring when he was killed during a drug raid.

According to Stephanie DuBois, the communications director of U.S. Rep. Charles Bass, R-NH, Maloney will posthumously receive the Above the Call of Duty and Career Service Award during the 2012 Congressional Law Enforcement Awards ceremony at the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training.

The award is given to police officers "who put themselves in harm’s way to help others and to recognize individuals who have shown an outstanding dedication to law enforcement over the course of their careers."

at the home of Cullen Mutrie on 517 Post Road in Greenland. Authorities determined that Mutrie and his ex-girlfriend, Brittany Tibbetts, were running an extensive drug trafficking operation from the home. When Maloney and four other police officers with the New Hampshire Attorney Generals Drug Task Force attempted to execute a warrant on the front porch, Mutrie opened fire and killed Maloney and wounded four police officers.

Authorities also said that Mutrie shot Tibbetts before turning the gun on himself during the armed standoff with police. In September, Maloney received the Medal of Valor from the New England Association of Chiefs of Police in Hampton.

In May, Maloney's name was added to the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial in Concord.
