Hundreds Watch South Span Float In

Archer Western Contractors crews place the first section of the new Memorial Bridge in position to be secured.

As hundreds of Portsmouth area residents watched from Prescott Park and One Harbour Place, the South Span of the new Memorial Bridge was successfully transported on Tuesday morning from the New Hampshire State Pier to the Scott Avenue approach.

Blessed with a perfect slack tide and favorable weather conditions, New Hampshire Department of Transportation and Archer Western Contractors officials said the move went very smoothly. Archer Western Contractors crews will spend the rest of Tuesday securing the South Span into place on the Scott Avenue approach and on top of two piers.

What follows is a video showing this morning's South Span float in.
