Judge Denies Motion to Unseal Lizzi Marriott Murder Case Documents

Foster's Daily Democrat reports that Dover District Court Judge Stephen Morrison issued this decision Thursday.

A Dover District Court judge has ruled against a motion filed by three New Hampshire newspapers to unseal court documents in the Lizzi Marriott murder case.

Foster's Daily Democrat reported Thursday afternoon that Judge Stephen Morrison denied the motion filed by Foster's, the Union Leader and the Portsmouth Herald to unseal the court documents. New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General James Vara argued against the motion on the grounds that unsealing the records could jeopardize what is still an ongoing investigation, disrupt the grand jury process and prevent certain witnesses from coming forward.

Authorities allege that Marriott, a 19-year-old University of New Hampshire student, was murdered by Seth Mazzaglia in his Dover apartment on Oct. 9. Meanwhile, in the Piscataqua River around Peirce Island in Portsmouth and off Fox Point in Newington.
