Kittery's Fuel and More Receives $10K Donation
Kittery, Maine nonprofit group will use funds donated by Leeward Industries, Inc., to provide Kittery families with home heating fuel assistance.

Volunteers of the Leeward Landing Thrift Store presented Kathy Pridham of Fuel and More with a $10,000 check to help provide home heating fuel for struggling Kittery families.

Winter can be a particularly difficult time for families struggling to make ends meet. Fuel costs add a significant amount of financial stress to many households in these difficult economic times.
“To say I was shocked when I received the check would be a huge understatement.... this gift will go along way to help many Kittery families stay warm this winter.” said Kathy Pridham, chair of Kittery’s Fuel and More program.

In addition to it’s monthly donations (approximately $7,500 per month) to 5 local food pantries, Leeward Landing makes annual donations to several local heating fuel assistance programs. These programs help low income families purchase heating fuel.

If you’d like to help, you can drop off gently used clothing, household items and furniture at Leeward Landing 90 US Route, York ME 03909 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday, or call 207-361-4085 to arrange a furniture pick up.

Ski for Schools: The Green Alliance in Portsmouth is teaming up with the Kittery Schools to offer Kittery families a chance to go skiing this Sunday at Shawnee Peak to raise money for the schools. According to Sarah Brown, the Green Alliance's director, families and Green Alliance members can coupons to get $20 off an adult lift tickets and $10 off a rental packages.
Ice skating at Fort McClary: For Kittery families who want to get out and do some ice skating, the small rink located across Pepperel Road from Fort McClary is in perfect condition. There is no charge and it is a great place for families who want to teach their children how to ice skate.
Get fit: Need a cure for the winter blahs and want to get in shape? The Kittery Community Center at Frisbee Commons is currently offering several classes of Pilates, Yoga and Nordic fitness walking. Contact the community center to register at (207) 439-8300 or online.
