Koch-Backed Organization Moves to Portsmouth

Conservative political advocacy Americans For Prosperity recently moved its New Hampshire seacoast office from Dover to Portsmouth.

PORTSMOUTH, NH - A conservative political advocacy group funded by David H. Koch and Charles Koch recently moved its New Hampshire seacoast office from Dover to Portsmouth. According to Seacoast Online, Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) hosted a grand opening of its new Portsmouth office on Tuesday.

AFP had previously been open in Manchester and two years ago it opened a second office in Dover. AFP-NH Director Greg Moore said moving to the location at 767 Islington St. Unit 2B was "all about logistics."

Portsmouth’s longtime Democratic state senator, Martha Fuller Clark, said she “was quite taken back by the fact that they were coming to Portsmouth. I’m surprised they would come in here given the Democratic configuration of the city. I don’t see it as a good fit.”

Fuller Clark, who’s vice chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, added “I think it’s important that the voters of Portsmouth know that they’re here and what they stand for.”

Rye’s Diane Bitter, finance chair of the Rockingham County Republicans and one of the leaders of the conservative 603 Alliance, said “there are a lot of Republicans in Portsmouth. They’re just not being vocal because they feel they’re outnumbered. But they really need to stand up.”
