Literature, Live Music and Theater on Tap This Weekend

Author John Irving to discuss his latest book at Music Hall; "The Vagina Monologues" returns to the Rep; Sweat Pants in Public rocks the Thirsty Moose Taphouse.

As most city residents know, there is never a shortage of fun things to do or places to go in Portsmouth. Each Friday, we will offer five suggestions for people who are planning out their weekends.

1. John Irving at Music Hall: Author John Irving will be at the Music Hall on Friday at 7:30 p.m. to discuss his latest novel, "In One Person," as part of the Writers on a New England Stage series. Tickets are $13 for the general public and $11 for Music Hall members.

2. Check out Sweat Pants in Public at Thirsty Moose: Sweat Pants in Public will take the stage at the Thirsty Moose Taphouse on Saturday from 9 to 12:30 p.m.

3. See the Serfs, Polka Rock: The Serfs, Polka Rock will perform at the Press Room on Saturday at 9 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge.

4. "The Vagina Monologues" at the Rep: "The Vagina Monologues" will be performed this weekend at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre with shows on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m.

5. Dance the night away at the Gaslight: The Portsmouth Gaslight Co. offers dancing with DJ Koko in its upstairs lounge on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. There is no cover charge and no dress code.
