Market Square Gets Back to Normal

Portsmouth area residents and traffic once again moves freely through the heart of the city as music fills the air.

Five days after the Blizzard of 2013 wreaked havoc in downtown Portsmouth, life in Market Square was finally getting back to normal on Tuesday afternoon as the sun made a few cameo appearances.

Portsmouth area residents once again walked with easy up and down Congress, Market and Pleasant streets again at city Public Works crews successfully removed the snow that once buried the sidewalks. Traffic also flowed freely through the heart of the city as a few musicians performed in the background.

One of those musicians was Sam Weise, 19, of Eliot, Maine, who decided to break out his violin and perform for passersby in front of the North Church. When asked why he chose to come out and perform on Tuesday afternoon, Weise replied, "Why not. Today was a nice day. I just wanted to get out and play."
