Marriott Murder Case Records Remain Sealed

New Hampshire Attorney Generals office objects to motion filed by three newspapers to open police records.

The New Hampshire Attorney General's office has objected to a motion filed by three daily newspapers to unseal police records in the Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott murder case in Dover District Court.

Foster's Daily Democrat reported on Friday NH Assistant Attorney James Vara argued against the motion filed by Foster's Daily Democrat, The Union Leader and the Portsmouth Herald on the grounds that unsealing the records could jeopardize what is still an ongoing investigation. In particular, Foster's Daily Democrat reported that Vara argued unsealing the records could disrupt the grand jury process and prevent certain witnesses from coming forward.

Authorities allege that Marriott, a 19-year-old University of New Hampshire student, was murdered by Seth Mazzaglia in his Dover apartment on Oct. 9. Meanwhile, in the Piscataqua River around Peirce Island in Portsmouth and off Fox Point in Newington.
