NECC Surrenders Operating Privileges in NH
Pharmaceutical company at center of meningitis outbreak investigation has voluntarily ceased operations.

The pharmaceutical company being investigated for causing an outbreak of fungal meningitis has voluntarily surrendered its privileges to operate as a non-resident, mail-order pharmacy in the State of New Hampshire, the NH Attorney General's Office annouced Friday.
According to Attorney General Michael Delaney, the New Hampshire Board of Pharmacy had suspended those privileges Oct. 8 on an emergency basis in
response to allegations that New England Compounding Center was responsible for the meningitis in patients who had been treated with medications compounded at their pharmacy.
On Thursday, Oct. 17, the Board approved NECC's voluntary aurrender of non-resident permit, Delaney said.

The Department of Health and Human Services announced Thursday afternoon that the list of medications potentially associated with the outbreak has grown, as has the number of New Hampshire medical practices that treated patients with drugs on the recall list.
The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health Services is encouraging 24 health care providers to contact patients who received any injectable products from New England Compounding Center, in Framingham, Mass., since May 21.

Nationally to date, 16 states have reported 257 cases, including 20 deaths and New Hampshire has confirmed eight cases of meningitis associated with this outbreak.
